The Laureate takes as its inspiration the classic prewar buildings of its Upper West Side neighborhood, with a granite and limestone facade that looks as at home as any of the older buildings nearby. But The Laureate’s 75 apartments are meant for modern-day homeowners, with energy-efficient features, windows designed to reduce noise, and amenities for residents of all ages. Within blocks are some of the indoor and outdoor highlights of the area, from the American Museum of Natural History to Central Park.

About The Laureate
SLCE Architects, known for projects that have reshaped the New York City skyline, hoped to bring Beaux-Arts design back to the neighborhood with the limestone facade and Juliet balconies of The Laureate. The 18-story building includes retail space below the residences.
At the center of the Upper West Side, in an enviable location between Central Park and Riverside Park, The Belnord complements its graceful surroundings. The Upper West Side is brownstone New York, punctuated by beauties like The Belnord; it’s Lincoln Center, the New York City Ballet, and the Metropolitan Opera; it’s smoked fish from Barney Greengrass and Zabar’s. This is a neighborhood with deep roots, glorious architecture, and celebrated cultural institutions. And then there’s Central Park, the 843-acre National Historic Landmark that spans 51 blocks from north to south and three avenues from east to west and includes fountains and lakes, playgrounds and walkways, wide-open green spaces, and manicured gardens.
Interior designers Deborah Berke Partners were going for a prewar-meets-21st-century vibe at The Laureate, and they succeeded in that aim in both the apartment layouts and the amenity spaces. The spacious and thoughtfully designed homes include custom kitchen fixtures and oversized bathrooms.
The amenities give residents of The Laureate no shortage of options. Along with a gym and indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces, the building includes two playrooms: one for younger kids and one for tweens.
