-About Elysee
Designed by legendary Miami architecture firm Arquitectonica, Elysee is a dramatic addition to Edgewater’s waterfront—and not just because, at 649 feet, it is the neighborhood giant. As the 57-story tower rises from the Biscayne Bay, it grows progressively wider, with three distinct tiers that give it a unique telescoping silhouette. The goal was to have all the units face the water, to create something “daring but strong,” said Arquitectonica’s Bernardo Fort-Brescia.
For his first luxury condominium tower, famed French interior designer Jean-Louis Deniot’s inspirations ranged from the opulent hotels of Morris Lapidus to the anything-but-dreary style of Dorothy Draper. The result is lavish and eclectic, or as Deniot put it, “a chic, fun and airy design…that reflects the exciting, artsy destination Miami is.” This theatrical vibe is most obvious in the lobby, with its 20-foot lacquered doors and dramatic black-and-white marble floors, and in the 30th-floor Sky Lounge, which oozes retro glamour. In the residences—there are 100, with no more than two per floor—it’s more understated. Lofty ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, sunrise and sunset terraces, and top-of-the-line appliances and fixtures come together to create a bright and contemporary vibe. And Deniot’s touch is apparent in the details. The striped mosaic floors in the bathrooms, for example, were inspired by French bathing suits from the 1930s.
From the grand lobby to the expansive wellness level to the 30th-floor Sky Lounge, Elysee has a generous suite of amenities befitting a much larger condominium development, including a pool, of course, as well as a waterfront fitness center (complete with state-of-the-art equipment, yoga studio, and sauna, steam, and massage rooms), a library, and a private theater. But it’s the design that makes Elysee distinctive. There are eclectic and artful touches everywhere, from antique gold leafing and custom area rugs to Japanese wallpaper. The grand dining room, with two walls of windows and an elegant palette of blues and greys, is particularly noteworthy.
