A sleek glass tower rising 460 feet and 43 stories above First Avenue, One United Nations Park is something of a departure for Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Meier. Not only is this his tallest residential building in New York City, but it’s also all black—and the starchitect, who notably designed the Getty Center in L.A., is known for his use of white. The combination of the unexpectedly bold color choice and its relatively impressive height is striking: One United Nations Park stands out in the sea of towers lining the East River, and even more so because of its prominent cut-out on the 27th and 28th floors. Minimalism has never felt so maximalist.

Richard Meier & Partners also designed the 148 smart residences, which range in size from one bedroom to four bedrooms. All the homes feature generous layouts, subdued color palettes, and refined finishes, paired with built-in smart home systems by Crestron. Duplex residences are particularly impressive, with double-height ceilings, custom staircases, and free-standing tubs. The overall vibe is classic but modern, simple but elegant.

From the fully attended lobby and the discrete porte cochere to the second-floor amenities suite, furnished by designers such as Finn Juhl, Fritz Hansen, De La Espada, and Knoll, the amenity experience at One United Nations is the definition of luxury. There are spaces for gathering together, like the private screening room and chic children’s lounge, and opportunities to find solo time. Of note, the 70-foot lap pool and state-of-the-art fitness center. And then, of course, there is the location, with easy access to everything Manhattan has to offer.
