The goal for the renovation of the Woolworth Tower by Thierry Despont SLCE Architects was simple: restoration. The actual process, however, was not so simple. Terra-cotta tiles were replaced and recolored according to the original palette; the coffered ceilings from Woolworth’s office on the 40th floor were cleaned, reinforced, and moved to the lobby; and the original vision of a subterranean Pompeiian-style swimming pool was finally realized. All in all, the process took five years to complete.

The condominium tower’s 32 residences are located on the top 30 floors, affording all units, which range in size from one bedroom to five bedrooms, near-360-degree vistas and plenty of natural light. Legendary designer Thierry Despont took full advantage of both features via lofty ceilings, arched windows, and open-plan layouts. Additional details of note include smart lighting and window treatments, heated floors, and all-white kitchens with Calacatta marble countertops and custom Dada cabinetry.

One of the main attractions of the Woolworth Tower is the chance to live in a landmark building with unparalleled views of Downtown New York. But this historic skyscraper doesn’t rest on its laurels. The 29th and 30th floors are dedicated to an entertainment and gaming area dubbed “the Gilbert Lounge” (after the original architect) and a fitness studio with top-of-the-line cardio and conditioning equipment. Underground amenities include a private wine cellar and a 50-foot lap pool.
