By: Ameena Walker

With the summer season upon us and increased flight cancellations snarling travel plans, many city dwellers are looking for ways to unwind without straying too far from home. From rooftop views of the iconic Macy’s 4th of July fireworks to swimming pools and barbecues, here are seven developments whose amenities offer fun in the sun for residents without the hassle of leaving their confines.

One Manhattan Square

With more than 100,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenities, One Manhattan Square—located on Manhattan’s Lower East Side—has virtually everything needed for the perfect staycation. Its offerings include a full-sized basketball court, golf simulators, a bowling alley, an arcade, and a billiard room. The fitness center boasts studios for Pilates, yoga, and dance, along with a spa and sauna. There is an indoor saltwater pool and a wading pool for kids. The one acre of private gardens includes a playground, covered dog run, tree house, herb garden, tea pavilion, and outdoor kitchen and dining area.

Quay Tower

Residents of the 126 stunning homes at Quay Tower, the ODA-designed waterfront development in Brooklyn Heights, can enjoy its 2,500-square-foot fitness center, get creative in its music room with a baby grand piano, or relax on the rooftop’s north-facing Sunset Lounge or the south-facing Sky Cabana, complete with grilling stations, a catering kitchen, and dazzling views of the East River. There might even be an opportunity to take in the July 4th fireworks from Quay Tower’s inviting rooftop.

Brooklyn Point

Amenities at Brooklyn Point span more than 40,000 square feet, making it perfect for a staycation. Its rooftop pool is perched 680 feet above ground and is the highest infinity pool in the Western Hemisphere, with unobstructed views of the city’s skyline. The rooftop also lends itself to outdoor showers, sunbathing, and outdoor movie screenings. A landscaped terrace with alfresco dining and fire pits resides on the ninth floor, and on the eleventh floor is a wellness suite with a state-of-the-art cardio and conditioning center, a rock-climbing wall, and an interactive squash and basketball court. A 65-foot indoor saltwater pool has a separate hot tub, infrared sauna, and steam rooms.

520 West 28th Street

In Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood is 520 West 28th Street, designed by the late Zaha Hadid and overlooking the High Line. The otherworldly development is home to the city’s only private IMAX theater and also offers residents a 75-foot skylit pool, a lounge and entertainment suite with a fully equipped chef’s kitchen that flows onto the High Line terrace, an innovation lab that promotes science, technology, engineering, art, and math for all ages, and a suite of water elements like saunas and steam rooms inspired by Turkish hammams.

Olympia Dumbo

Located at 30 Front Street in Brooklyn, Olympia Dumbo offers pristine river and skyline views, along with an unparalleled array of amenities that take staycations to a new level. The 33-story building has three floors of amenity space—the Garden, the Bridge, and the Club—spread across 38,000 square feet that are designed to maximize comfort and convenience. The Garden level features landscaped private gardens and a lounge that overlooks them, while the Bridge level is dedicated to wellness and provides indoor and outdoor pools, cabanas, barbecue areas, a steam room, treatment room, dry sauna, juice bar, tennis court, landscaped park, and ship-inspired children’s playground.
