City of Tomorrow Summit Goes Virtual

Architects, planners, policy makers, developers, designers, and others whose visions give shape to cities across the globe will convene virtually next week for the fourth annual City of Tomorrow summit. Presented by the 92nd Street Y and Hundred Stories, this year’s summit, held on Oct. 13 and 14, will place special emphasis on cities in a post-pandemic world. Panels will discuss how to revitalize New York’s economy, how the COVID-19 pandemic will shape architecture and planning in the years to come, a reimagining of uses for open space, and the necessary innovations in the restaurant and hospitality worlds. Speakers will include Practice for Architecture and Urbanism founder Vishaan Chakrabarti, Sidewalk Labs CEO Daniel L. Doctoroff, Durst Organization principal Helena Durst, social and economic theorist Richard Florida, and restaurateur Daniel Boulud. View the full roster of panels and register for the event at the 92nd Street Y website. Admission is free for this year’s summit.

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show Draws Near

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show will return to South Florida from Oct. 28 through Nov. 1 for its 61st year. More than 1,000 exhibitors will display upward of 1,300 vessels, ranging from inflatables to superyachts, spread across seven marinas in Fort Lauderdale. The show will feature the second annual Superyacht Village, where yachts created by some of the world’s most prominent designers will be on display. This year’s show will adhere to all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations — attendees will be required to wear masks and have their temperature scanned upon entry. General admission is $35 for adults. Windward VIP Club tickets cost $300 and include a concierge to book exhibitor appointments and access to a lounge with an open bar.

Luxury Real Estate Takes Off in Sydney

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a boost in luxury sales to Sydney as expats return to Australia and locals bolster the market. Knight Frank partner Erin van Tuil told Mansion Global that Sydney saw a 33 percent increase in super-prime average transaction value year-over-year to $16.8 million. Knight Frank’s 2020 Global Buyer Survey found that 40 percent of ultrahigh-net-worth individuals in Sydney are looking to buy a home on the waterfront. The under-construction One Barangaroo Crown Residences is poised to bring 82 super-prime waterfront condos to Sydney Harbour by early 2021. Residents of One Barangaroo will have access to the adjoining 349-key Crown Hotel’s two pool decks, tennis courts, spa, and gym.

Thomas Heatherwick’s Lantern House Gets Signature Windows

Boundary-pushing architect Thomas Heatherwick’s forthcoming High Line condo, Lantern House, is taking shape in NYC’s Chelsea neighborhood. New photos of the building captured by New York YIMBY show that most of the building’s signature lantern-like bay windows are now in place. The luxe development features 181 condos spread across two towers — one of 21 stories and a second of 10 stories — joined by a lobby under the High Line greenway. Current availability ranges from a one-bedroom, one-and-a-half bathroom residence, asking $1.625 million, to a four-bedroom, four-and-a-half bathroom residence with a large private terrace, seeking $10.95 million. Lantern House is being developed by The Related Companies, whose portfolio also includes 35 Hudson Yards and The Avery.
